The Department of Homeland Security has just admitted that there is "no specific federal strategy for responding to a catastrophic earthquake in California
". This in spite of the fact that we've known for, oh, about 100 years
, that California faults can produce some very nasty shakers.
Of course, we knew that New Orleans was vulnerable to hurricanes, as well, and we all saw how that turned out.
Anyway, my hat is off to Michael Chertoff and everyone else at DHS, where the flag of incompetence still proudly flies.
